About .925 Sterling Silver Jewelry
Pure silver – also called and known as fine silver is a soft and malleable metal, which is easily damaged. Centuries ago silver jewelry was made from pure silver, but was often ruined or destroyed. To create a more durable product pure silver is mixed with another metal, most commonly copper to create the alloy sterling silver.

The term sterling silver is actually the technical term that describes the silver content of an alloy. The phrase "sterling silver" originated in England, more than 800 years ago, to describe an alloy consisting of 92.5% pure silver and the remaining 7.5% copper because of its ability to enhance silver without compromising the beauty of silver, but nickel, zinc and other metals have been used.

Hallmarking of silver came into force in 1720 in the United Kingdom, but it wasn't until 1814 that hallmarking began in Baltimore, USA. Hallmarked Silver is by definition a mix of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper alloy and often engraved 925, .925 or SS. Sterling silver is often hallmarked, unless of course the piece is too small or fine for engraving,  however, we only source from manufacturers who guarantee their products to be .925 sterling silver quality or better.

Acceptable Hallmarks include: .925, 92.5, SS, sterling, sterling silver, ster.

Our .925 sterling silver jewelry is sometimes coated with a Rhodium Plating (and would be stated on each piece) to give it a lustrous look and help prevent tarnishing which is a natural occurrence for sterling silver jewelry.

To keep your sterling silver jewelry shiny if that is indeed the look you prefer, we recommend using a cleaning cloth recommended for cleaning jewelry.
